We invite you to join us at the John G. Neihardt State Historic Site (306 W. Elm St., Bancroft, NE) for our upcoming “Sunday at the Museum” programs. Enclosed is an event schedule for Fall 2015.

Also a reminder, our next September SAM program will be tomorrow (September 13) at 2:00 p.m. featuring Karen Gettert Shoemaker and her book, The Meaning of Names, with refreshments and book signing to follow.

The Meaning of Names follows the fictional story of Gerda Vogel and her family in 1918 Holt County, Nebraska. Even the quiet calm of farm country cannot shelter the American family of German descent from prejudice, violence and a plague unlike the world has ever seen. Wrote the Lincoln Journal Star in review of her work: “This slender volume is deceptive in size. It is a book of big themes, true history and serious art, focusing on our Nebraska of not so long ago.” Shoemaker’s prose has been compared to the likes of Willa Cather, and Omaha Public Library selected this work for their Omaha Reads campaign.
